Bio

My name is Chris Thorpe and I am an experienced, qualified session drummer based in London. I have extensive experience performing, recording and touring with various musical groups ranging from jazz, latin and funk to rock, indie and punk. You can view my online portfolio and video performances at www.christhorpemusic.wordpress.com

I studied drums at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, where I completed my Bachelor of Music Honours degree in Jazz Performance under the guidance of legendary drummer Barry Van Zyl (The Johnny Clegg Band).

For the past three and a half years I have been lecturing the drum courses at the Cape Town branch of the Campus of Performing Arts (www.copasa.co.za), the South African franchise of The Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford, UK (www.acm.co.uk).

I am a co-founder of indie rock band Irvine, with whom I spent the last six years performing in South Africa and London. Recordings and video clips of my work with Irvine can be viewed at www.irvineband.com

I am a passionate and energetic performer with a solid groove as well as an advanced reading ability and level of improvisation. I am a very reliable and easy going person with an ear for good feel, accuracy and creativity.

I am available for session work in any genre. Thank you for your time.
